A cup of coffee is good and healthy, but can it help shed the extra pounds on your belly? Maybe the coffee itself cannot, but the extract from the beans surely can. If you would like to know how the extract works, check the green tea and coffee bean extract reviews post I made a few weeks ago.
Few people can actually let the day go by without having a cup of java, black tea or tar as many people prefer to call coffee. We all know the health benefits associated with coffee, but very few people know that extracts from green coffee beans actually have fat fighting potential. This post from WebMD goes in depth on the benefits of coffee.
Where Does Green Coffee Bean Extract Come From?
The extract comes from green or unroasted coffee beans, just like the name suggests. Coffee contains many compounds which have numerous health benefits.
What Will The Extract Do For You?
The major benefit that the extract is known for is weight loss. The extract has gained popularity recently with websites and companies offering green coffee pills and beverages spiked with the extract. Recently, many doctors have talked about the benefits of green coffee extract with regards to weight loss.
Does Green Coffee Extract Work?
There are research studies showing that chlorogenic acid present in green coffee bean has an effect on fat loss and general body weight. This was ascertained by Lona Sandon, an assistant professor of clinical nutrition, University of Texas.
Most of the researches have been conducted on animals as opposed to few which had humans as subjects. A closer look at the results shows that:
2 pounds lost in 2 weeks: Dr. Oz study

18 Pounds Lost In Five Months: Indian Study
This was concluded by a study conducted in India, published in Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity. Research participants who took green coffee bean extract pills lost approximately 18 pounds. This was 10% their body weight over a period more than 22 weeks. The study tested two doses of green coffee bean extract: 1,050 mg and 700 mg daily.
Dr. Oz gave his study subjects 400 mg of the extract thrice a day—slightly higher than the dosage in the Indian study.
Any Associated Risks?
There were no side effects reported with both the Indian and Dr. Oz study. Although, the long term effect of the extract is unknown as the studies were conducted over short periods.
It is important to note that both these studies did not take into consideration people with illnesses and pre existing conditions or anyone who was under prescribed medication.
If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, it is important to consult your physician before you start taking green coffee extract. I have outlined some potential green coffee extract side effects before.
Green Coffee Bean Extract for Weight Loss
Here are some expert tips on choosing safe and quality green coffee extract products:
- Buy the recommended dose and take as prescribed, more of the extract does not mean it increases effectiveness.
- Buy from reputable brand suppliers. The label should read GCA or Svetol, 45% chlorogenic acid.
- Avoid brands which have filler ad artificial ingredients
- Look out for side effects such as increased heart rate, allergic reactions and increased blood pressure. If you are allergic to coffee or caffeine, don’t buy the product.
- Eat a healthy diet and exercise.
Lose Weight Fast and for Good
Ultimately, you need to eat a balanced diet to remain healthy. I would like to stress that taking supplements like raspberry ketones or green bean coffee extract is not all you need to do. How will you lose weight if you do not check your diet?
I have two meal books that I recommend. These are the Paleo Diet that has over 300 meal plans and my very own Raspberry Ketone Diet that has over 100 meals that I use.
